UN body tweets to invite Ram Rahim, Honeypreet for World Toilet Day; United Nations Water then deletes the tweets

New York: The United Nations Water has invited Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his close aide Honeypreet Insan to support its World Toilet Day event to be held in November.

The UN Water, which defines itself as a body that “coordinates the UN’s work on water and sanitation for a better world” through its handle @UN_Water, on Wednesday tweeted: “Dear @insan_honey, we hope you & @Gurmeetramrahim will lend your voice and support #WorldToiletDay.” A link to their website (worldtoiletday.info) was also mentioned in the tweet, said media reports. The tweet has since been deleted.

It was not the first time the UN body had talked about the controversial duo. There was another tweet posted on Tuesday, which said, “Dear @Gurmeetramrahim, can we count on your support to celebrate toilets on November 19 – #WorldToiletDay? http://www.worldtoiletday.info/.” This tweet too has since been deleted.

The rationale behind the United Nations’ decision to invite two of India’s most controversial figures is puzzling, said media reports. Questions are also being raised on the UN’s awareness about the status of people they invite for their campaigns, added the reports.
