Admiral Mehta Highlights Naval Progress Plans on Farewell Visit
Unveiling progress plans, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta on Tuesday said that the Indian Navy will undergo infrastructural development in the next few years, he was addressing a ceremonial parade at the Kochi Naval Base.
He said that the force was in the midst of a “boost” in terms of advanced ships, submarines and aircraft.
The Admiral informed that procurement of an aircraft carrier, new helicopters and MIG-29 aircraft was underway and added that the induction schedule would be completed within four years.
He underlined the commissioning of the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kerala and the Naval Base at Karwar in Karnataka and exhorted naval sailors to ensure “good character, discipline and hard work.”
He urged newcomers to keep pace with technological advancements.
Admiral Mehta, who retires from service on August 31, was on a farewell visit to the Base.
Vice-Admiral Nirmal Verma is scheduled to succeed Admiral Mehta at the helm of the maritime force, which, say media reports, is headed for a comprehensive change in its top brass.
