IPL 2018: Ambati Rayudu’s run-out on MS Dhoni’s shot leaves CSK camp in splits
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are on a roll in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. With a 13-run victory over Delhi Daredevils (DD) on Monday, they went back to the No 1 spot in the points table. (IPL 2018 FULL COVERAGE)
So far, it has been a stunning comeback for a team which missed the previous two seasons due to a Supreme Court ruling. CSK have left no stone unturned to make it a memorable return as they have played truly as a two-time champion.
They say, successful teams generally have players enjoying each others’ success. But the mood in the Chennai camp is so relaxed that they even seem to have a laugh at someone’s mistake too.
Ambati Rayudu’s red-hot form is one of the reasons why CSK have been so successful this year. On Monday, he once again missed out on a half-century this IPL — he has been dismissed on 39, 49 and 46 previously — when Rayudu was run out for 41 against the Daredevils.
Rayudu looked set for a big knock once again but a horribly mix-up in calling between him and MS Dhoni resulted in his dismissal. Interestingly, the manner in which he got out had CSK coach Stephen Fleming and Dwayne Bravo smiling.
A short ball that swayed to Dhoni’s leg-side was missed by the batsman, as a quick throw back to the bowler Trent Boult from gloveman Rishabh Pant put Delhi in a position to break the stubborn stand.
Boult made no mistake when he broke the stumps at the non-striker’s end, running Rayudu out for 41 which came off 25 balls with five fours and one six.
He added 101 runs for the fourth wicket with CSK captain Dhoni.
Following the dismissal of Rayudu, the camera immediately panned towards the CSK dugout where Fleming and Bravo were seen grinning while Rayudu walked back.
CSK posted 211/4 batting first, which proved to be a task beyond Delhi Daredevils. Rishabh Pant (79) and Vijay Shankar (54) smacked fifties but their efforts were not enough as Delhi plunged further down in the points table.
