Weak Modi is scared of Xi Jinping: Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi after China ‘shields’ Masood Azhar at UNSC
New Delhi: A day after China blocked India’s request at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to declare JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist for the fourth time by putting a “technical hold”, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed PM Narendra Modi over his China Diplomacy. Calling him ‘Weak Modi’, the Congress president said that the Prime Minister was “scared” of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a tweet, Gandhi said, “Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India. “Mocking the Prime Minister, the Congress chief said that Modi’s China diplomacy only involved “Swing with Xi in Gujarat, Hug Xi in Delhi and Bow to Xi in China.”
For the last two decades, India has been trying to list Azhar as a ‘global terrorist’ at the UNSC and to get his name added to the counter-terrorism list, a move supported by all members except for China. China has blocked the move three times in the past and on Wednesday, blocked it for the fourth time by putting a technical hold on a proposal in the UN Security Council just before the close of the deadline.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in its official statement, expressed its “disappointment” in the outcome and asserted that it would continue to pursue “all possible avenues to ensure terrorist leaders are brought to justice”.
Meanwhile, hours after the development at the UNSC, Congress party targeted the Modi government over its failure to get the proposal to ban Azhar, whose JeM claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack, passed at the international forum. Taking to Twitter, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, “A sad day in the global fight against terrorism! China blocking Masood Azhar’s designation as global terrorist reaffirms Chinese position of being an inseparable ally of terrorism’s breeding ground-Pakistan. Sadly, Modiji’s Foreign Policy has been a series of Diplomatic Disasters.”
