Amit Shah slams police action on techies at Rahul Gandhi’s event
NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: BJP president Amit Shah hit out at Congress on Tuesday for arresting software engineers raising pro-Modi slogans during Rahul Gandhi’s event in Bengaluru on Monday.
Taking a dig at Congress, Shah tweeted, “Hugs for tukde tukde gang and arrest of peaceful youth raising pro-Modi slogans? Where are the champions of free speech?” Shah tweeted. Referring to Rahul, Shah said, “Yuvraj of Congress must know country rallies behind youth power. Stop intimidating youth of India, which has rejected your brand of politics.”
Reacting to Shah’s tweet, former CM Siddaramaiah denied that police had made any arrests. He said police had taken a few people into custody for some time before releasing them.
He warned BJP leaders that similar protests could be organised at Modi’s programmes. “BJP leaders should have some responsibility. How can they disturb the programmes of opposition parties? They should not forget that we can also disturb Modi functions if it continues,” he said.
Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy asked Shah to teach his party supporters how to behave in public. “It is high time BJP supporters learn about decency,” he said. “I advise Shah to tell his supporters to behave properly in public. How can they go and create a nuisance at opposition party events?”
The BJP unit of Karnataka had earlier shared a video saying, “Police arrests few techies for raising pro-Modi slogans at Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru. This is the real face of democracy in a Congres-JD(S) ruled state.”
