Petrol, diesel prices remain unchanged on Tuesday
New Delhi: State-controlled oil marketing companies kept the retail petrol and diesel prices unchanged across major cities of the country on Tuesday (April 23). In national capital Delhi, petrol is being sold for Rs 72.95 per litre while diesel costs Rs 66.46 a litre, no change compared with yesterday’s price.
On Monday, the retail price of petrol raised by 5 paise while diesel prices fell by 7 paise across metro cities. The retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.
In Mumbai, citizens have to pay Rs 78.52 for a litre of petrol while diesel costs Rs 69.56 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Chennai, petrol and diesel are selling for Rs 75.71 a litre and Rs 70.17 per litre, no change in rates against yesterday’s prices.
People in Kolkata have to shell out Rs 74.97 for a litre of petrol while diesel retailed at Rs 68.20 per litre. In Noida also, petrol price remained static at Rs 72.27 and diesel price at Rs 65.53. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices remained unchanged at Rs 72.81 and Rs 65.63 respectively.
Worth mentioning here is that the price of petrol and diesel prices in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements.
The rupee plunged 32 paise to 69.67 against the dollar on Monday as global crude prices spiked 3 per cent after the US announced that no more waivers will be given to Iran oil importers and that the US intends to fully clamp down on oil exports from that country.
On Tuesday, in the international oil market, crude prices touched 2019 highs after the Donald Trump administration decision to end all Iran curb waivers by May this year. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 74.40 per barrel, up 0.5 per cent from their last close.
