Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians Playing 11 IPL: Team News, players to watch out for
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be looking to consolidate their top spot on the table when they lock horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chepauk on Friday. The clash between the arch-rivals promises to be a blockbuster one as both teams look for a win. CSK suffered their first defeat of the season when the two teams last met at the Wankhede Stadium and the hosts will look for revenge in Chennai on Friday.
MS Dhoni’s men are currently placed top of the table with 16 points from 11 games and a win against Mumbai will help them finish in top two, providing them two chances to qualify for the final. Mumbai head into the game on the back of a 5-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals and will be keen to bounce back to winning ways as the tournament heads into its business end with only four games left for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
Shane Watson returned to form for CSK with a brilliant 96 off 53 balls taking his side to a comfortable 6-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Suresh Raina also looked in good touch as he scored a quickfire 38 off 24 balls against SRH. The likes of Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu have also played good cameos for the side and will look to deliver against Mumbai Indians.
Skipper Dhoni himself has been in splendid touch as he leads the run-scoring charts for CSK so far this season. However, there remain doubts over his fitness as he has been battling a stiff back and admitted to taking time off if the problem worsens. Losing Dhoni will be a big blow for CSK but with the return of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, the defending champions have once again found their balance and will be aiming to avoid a second defeat against Mumbai this season.
Mumbai Indians batsmen have also produced goods this season with Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma in good nick. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard have taken the opposition bowlers to the cleaners in every other game and are in destructive form. On a sluggish Chepauk track, Mumbai will look to bring in an extra spinner in the playing XI as they might include both Mayank Markande and Rahul Chahar in the line-up.
CSK will once again rely on the spinners to restrict Mumbai on a low total. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja have all been a threat to the visitors at Chepauk and will look to continue their fine form on Friday.

Harbhajan Singh – The veteran spinner has been used majorly in Chennai and he has delivered every single time. In five games that he has played this season, Harbhajan has picked up nine wickets at a brilliant economy of 6.05. He picked up the wickets of dangerous Jonny Bairstow and David Warner against SRH and can prove to be lethal against Mumbai.
Shane Watson – Watson roared back to form with a stellar knock against Sunrisers and missed his century by a whisker. On his day, Watson can single-handedly torment bowling attacks and his all-out attack against SRH was proof that he still has it in him.
Rahul Chahar – The young spinner has been enjoying a phenomenal season with Mumbai Indians producing consistent performances. He has nine wickets in seven games this season and will be looking forward to exploiting the spin-friendly conditions at Chepauk.
Hardik Pandya – He has been contributing well both with the bat and the ball for Mumbai Indians. Hardik is hitting the ball as clinical as ever adding a late flourish to Mumbai’s innings. It will be difficult to stop him for CSK once he gets going at the Chepauk.
