Rishabh Pant reveals big role MS Dhoni has played in his career ahead of CSK vs DC clash

There was a lingering fear among the Indian fans as to what will happen to the Indian team after MS Dhoni finally decides to call it a day. The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper has been an incredible servant of the game for his country for the better part of the last 15 years. He has complemented his power-hitting prowess with his exceptional wicketkeeping skills. If there was ever a complete package in cricket then MS Dhoni would be it.

After all, he has led India to a world title in both the T20 and ODI format while getting them to the number 1 spot in Tests as well. He has scored 10500 runs in 341 ODIs at an excellent average of 50.72 while having the most number of stumpings (120) in the history of the 50-over format. As he entered the final leg of his career, everyone wondered who will replace MSD.

This was until the emergence of another swashbuckling wicketkeeper in the form of Rishabh Pant who has quickly established himself as the heir apparent to MS Dhoni in the past year. He has cemented his spot in the Test side while knocking the doors in limited-overs squad too. Even though he missed out on a place in the upcoming ICC World Cup, the 20-year-old is viewed as the perfect player to replace Dhoni when he retires.

Ahead of Delhi Capitals’ clash against Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Pant revealed how important a role Dhoni has had to play in his development.

“Mahi bhai is an important figure for me. Whenever I have a problem I share it with him. Whether it is an on-field thing or off the field matter I go to him,” Pant said. “But now against CSK he is an opponent so the concentration will be on defeating his side.”

However, Dhoni could miss out on the DC clash as he has still not fully recovered from back spasms and fever. He has been instrumental in CSK’s qualification to the IPL playoffs after scoring 314 runs at an excellent average of 104.66.

On the other hand, Pant has had a big role to play in IPL 2019 where DC have qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Pant has hit 343 runs for the franchise this season while having an impressive strike rate of 161.03.
