IPL 2019 hat-tricks: From Laxmipathy Balaji to Shreyas Gopal, players who made history

Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Shreyas Gopal registered his name in history books as he bagged a hat-trick against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter on Tuesday. The treble came with the dismissals of RCB skipper Virat Kohli, vice-captain AB de Villiers and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. In the process, Gopal became the 19th player in the history of IPL to complete the hat-trick, with former Chennai Super Kings speedster Laxmipathy Balaji being the first one. Having taken a hat-trick in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, this is the second occasion when the Bengaluru-born spinner has taken a T20 hat-trick.

The performance, however, couldn’t yield the desired result for the Royals as they only managed to win a point after the match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium was abandoned due to persistent rainfall. While a progression to the IPL playoffs seems tough from here, Gopal did manage to register his name in the list of IPL hat-trick takers. Here’s how the list goes:
