Diggy participates in Bhagwa roadshow
Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency Digvijay Singh participated in the Bhagwa roadshow conducted by thousands of sadhus here on Wednesday.
The roadshow covered Peer Gate and several sub-lanes of walled city. Namdeo Das Tyagi alias Computer Baba, who was leading the group, said that sadhus from across the country have come to ensure Singh’s victory in the elections to be held here on May 12.
The event however landed in controversy after several policemen and policewomen deployed on duty during the event in plain clothes were seen draping saffron stole around their necks.
When media persons accosted them on the issue, several women personnel accepted they were from police. “Hame pahnaya gaya hai (We have been made to put it on), said one of the woman constable.
The police personnel did not speak much on camera but off the record said that it was very hot and they used the stole to cover them against the sun and some of them said saffron wasn’t a colour of any party but was a symbol of deshprem (nationalism).
However, the cops on duty did not offer a clear reply on the matter.
BJP’s Madhya Pradesh spokesperson Rajnish Agrawal said that Digvijay Singh tried making police personnel part of his road show and asked the Election Commission to take cognizance. Congress media cell vice president Bhupendra Gupta claimed the police personnel have claimed that they tried preventing the sun with the stole so what is the issue with that.
Earlier thousands of seers led by Computer Baba aka Namdas Tyagi took out a march in the city with Congress candidate Digvijay Singh from Mata Mandir area. During the event, several seers claimed that they had nothing to do with candidature of anyone but they were concerned that a Ram temple which PM Narendra Modi had promised has not been built.
One of them in tears, said it saddening that our idol (lord Ram) was in tent and the Pm Modi was leading a lavish life (Hamare Ram taat me, aur Modi thaath me).
