Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant not meant to be controlled: Shreyas Iyer

Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2019 Eliminator on Wednesday at YS Rajasekhara ADA VCDA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam and booked their date with Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2. After the most awaited win in the Eliminator, DC Skipper Shreyas Iyer lauded Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw for their brilliant half-centuries against Sunrisers and opined that no one should control the batsmen like Prithvi and Pant.

Shaw, who was unable to score big in the last few games, took DC off to a strong start as he scored 56 runs off 38 balls with the help of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes. Pant, meanwhile, has been sensational for his side throughout the tournament as he scored 450 runs in 15 matches while smashing 35 boundaries and 25 sixes so far in the 12th edition. Against SRH, he played a scintillating knock off 49 off 21 runs while slamming 5 sixes and 2 boundaries.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, DC skipper said, “I can’t express my emotions. It felt like I have been sitting and watching for years when it came to the last two years. I could see the happiness on everyone’s faces. Hoping for another one against Chennai. Looking forward to the next game. But the start they got was really good on this track.”

“We controlled in the middle phase. Mishi pa (Amit Mishra) was exceptional as he conceded only 15 runs. The other bowlers did well to bowl economically. I personally feel you can’t really control them (on Pant and Prithvi). When you stop a batsman like Pant or Prithvi, it hampers their mind and their flow. It was good that both of them came good tonight,” Iyer further addedChasing the 162 run target, Shaw set a strong foundation through his half-century after being dropped by Basil Thampi early in the innings. Shikhar Dhawan supported Shaw with his 17 off 16 deliveries before being dismissed in the 8th over and the duo together contributed 66 runs for the first wicket partnership.

Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Iyer for cheap in the 11th over, then Pant came on to the crease and took his team close to the win with his 21-ball 49 innings before Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent him back in the penultimate over. When Amit Mishra was dismissed for obstructing the field in the final over, DC required 2 off 4 balls. Which is when Keemo Paul hit Khaleel for a boundary and concluded the match with one ball left.

After their win in a close game against SRH, Capitals will now face the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2 on May 10 at YS Rajasekhara ADA VCDA Cricket Stadium to seal their final berth.
