Diesel prices fall, no change in petrol prices on Saturday. Check today’s rates in top cities
New Delhi: State-run oil marketing companies on Saturday (August 10) refrained from changing the retail prices of petrol. However, diesel prices dropped for the third consecutive day across major cities of the country. After today’s rate revision, diesel prices came down by 7-11 paise per litre. In national capital Delhi, a litre of petrol today costs 72.08 a litre while diesel price lowered to Rs 65.64 per litre as compared to Rs 65.75 on Friday. The retail fuel prices are the cheapest in Delhi among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.
In Chennai, citizens have to shell out Rs 74.87 for a litre of petrol while diesel prices decreased to Rs 69.35 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Kolkata, petrol is selling for Rs 74.78 a litre while diesel price declined to Rs 68.01, 7 paise less than yesterday’s price of Rs 68.08 a litre.
Citizens in Mumbai have to shell out Rs 77.74 for a litre of petrol, no change compared with Friday’s price. A litre of diesel costs Rs 68.82 94, 12 paise lower than yesterday’s rate of Rs 68.94 per litre.
Petrol in Gurgram sells for Rs 72.18 (no change compared with yesterday’s price) a litre and diesel is priced at Rs 64.99 (9 paise decrease) per litre. In Noida, petrol is retailing at Rs 71.63 a litre while diesel became cheaper by 9 paise than yesterday’s price of Rs 64.96 a litre.
As the country’s daily pricing mechanism, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs last month reduced its 2019 oil demand projection, joining other forecasters such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Opec in lowering its outlook for fuel use.
