Diesel prices hike by 21 paise, petrol unchanged for fourth consecutive day on Saturday. Check today’s rates

New Delhi: State-run oil marketing companies increased the pump price of diesel by 17-21 paise for the third successive day but kept petrol rates unchanged for the fourth consecutive day across the country on Saturday (December 21), across the country including major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Noida and Gurugram. In Delhi, diesel prices increased to Rs 66.54 a litre as against Rs 66.34 a litre on Friday while petrol is retailing at Rs 74.63 a litre, no change in price compared with yesterday’s price, as per data from Indian Oil Corporation website.

The retail prices of fuel in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. As per the country’s daily pricing mechanism, the prices of fuel in India are dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. On Friday, the rupee weakened by 9 paise to close at 71.12 against the US dollar on Friday due to a steady rise in crude oil prices and strengthening of the greenback overseas.

In Mumbai, citizens have to pay Rs 69.80 for a litre after a 21 paise hike over Friday’s rate of Rs 69.59 for a litre of diesel. Petrol prices were stagnant at Rs 80.29 a litre. Similarly, in Kolkata, the retail prices of diesel and petrol are Rs 68.95 a litre (20 paise increase) and Rs 77.29 (unchanged) per litre, respectively.

Diesel became 21 paise costlier today in Chennai and is selling at Rs 70.13 per litre. There is no change in the petrol price against Thursday’s price. In Noida, diesel is retailing at Rs 70.34 a litre while the petrol price was stagnant at Rs 77.75 a litre. The pump prices of diesel and petrol in Gurugram are Rs 65.78 per litre (17 paise increase) and Rs 74.20 (unchanged) per litre, respectively.
