Petrol becomes cheaper on Saturday, diesel price remains stagnant. Check latest rates here

New Delhi: Petrol prices were cut for the second straight day on Saturday while diesel price prices remained stagnant for the fifth successive day across key cities in the country. Petrol became 7-8 paise cheaper after today’s price revision while diesel rates remained unchanged. In Delhi, petrol was retailing at Rs 72.62 per litre compared to Rs 72.69 Yesterday. Diesel in the National Capital was retailing at Rs 66.

As per data from Indian Oil Corporation website, state-controlled oil marketing companies reduced petrol by up to 8 paise while diesel prices kept unchanged across the country. In Mumbai, petrol price was lowered by 7 paise to Rs 78.27 a litre as compared with yesterday’s rate of Rs 78.34 per litre while diesel price remained at Rs 69.17 a litre.

Similarly, in Kolkata, diesel price was unchanged at Rs 68.19 per litre while petrol price went down from Rs 75.37 to Rs 75.30 per litre. In Chennai, the retail price of petrol price went down to Rs 75.44 from yesterday’s price of Rs 75.52 a litre. Diesel prices remained static at Rs 69.71 per litre.

In Noida, petrol on Saturday was retailing at Rs 72.08, one paise cheaper from Friday’s rate of Rs 72.09. Diesel in the city was selling at Rs 65.17, up four paise from Friday’s rate of Rs 65.13 per litre.

It may be noted that last month, the retail price of petrol went up by Rs 2.42 paise per litre while diesel price went up by Rs 1.73 a litre. The pump fuel prices are dependent on the global crude oil prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate. This is due to the fact that India imports around 80 per cent of its crude requirements.

On Friday, crude oil prices rose around 1 per cent, steadying after an overnight plunge following US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose more tariffs on Chinese imports, intensifying the trade war that has hit global growth. It is worth mentioning that Brent crude slumped more than 7 per cent on Thursday, its steepest drop in more than three years. US crude fell nearly 8 per cent, posting its worst day in more than four years,
