Vistara to discontinue 200ml plastic water bottles on flights, goes eco-friendly way

New Delhi: In an effort to reduce plastic usage, Vistara airline is all set to stop providing plastic bottles to passengers on its flights. The airline will remove all individual-sized 200ml plastic water bottles from its flights.

The airline said in a statement, “This initiative was implemented on Delhi–Mumbai flights on July 16, and will be extended to all flights across the airline’s network in phases over the coming weeks. Economy Class customers, who were hitherto given water in small plastic bottles, will now be served mineral water in environment-friendly paper cups.”

It is to be noted that Vistara has reduced single-use plastic usage in the past couple of months. The airline has also set a target of further 50 per cent reduction this year. The airline is undertaking several other eco-friendly initiatives in order to support its inflight service with minimal use of plastics. It is doing so by switching the packaging to renewable and biodegradable sources.

“Vistara is the first and only carrier in India to serve oxo-biodegradable cutlery and pouch to Economy class customers. It has also replaced plastic casseroles with aluminium dishes in Economy and china casseroles in Premium Economy, plastic straws and stirrers with paper or wooden ones, and disposable bowls in economy class with reusable ones,” the airline further said in its statement.

Earlier, the airline had also banned chewing tobacco or gutka consumption on board and at their facilities.

It is worth mentioning that Vistara is planning to celebrate the legacy of JRD Tata aboard the Vistara Retrojet.
