Chinese government knew about Covid-19 much before official announcement: Dr Li-Meng Yan, one of the first scientists to study coronavirus

Dr Li-Meng Yan, one of the first scientists to study the novel coronavirus has revealed that the Chinese government refused overseas experts access to Covid-19 at the onset of the pandemic. On April 28, Dr Yan fled Hong Kong for the US where she is currently in hiding.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News, Dr Li-Meng Yan who specialised in virology and immunology at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, said she believes the Chinese government knew about Covid-19 much before the official announcement. She added that her peers in Hong Kong too ignored her research on SARS-CoV-2.
While claiming that she fled Hong Kong for the US to tell the world the truth about Covid-19, Dr Yan said that she left her family behind and knew that she would be jailed. She has also accused the Chinese government of perpetrating a cyber attack against her.
Dr Yan said her supervisor at the Hong Kong University, Dr Leo Poon asked her to examine an odd cluster of SARS-like cases coming out of mainland China towards the end of December 2019. During the interview, Dr Yan expressed that her lab which has been conferred special status by the World Health Organisation (WHO) was obligated to reveal the truth about Covid-19 to the world.
A friend employed by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in China with first-hand knowledge about cases told me about the human-to-human transmission of Covid-19 on December 31 much before China admitted it, Dr Yan claimed. It was only on January 9 that the WHO put out an official statement asserting that the virus can cause severe illness in some patients while adding that it does not transmit readily between people.
Referring to the Communist Party of China’s attempts to cover up the outbreak and how her seniors told her not to cross the “Red Line”, Dr Yan said, “I know how they treat whistleblowers”.
According to Dr Yan, government agents back home searched her apartment and even questioned her parents in their hometown of Qingdao. She added that her spouse, a scientist himself, had refused to believe in her when she voiced concerns about Covid-19. The Hong Kong University has also removed Dr Yan’s page from its official website and claims that she is no longer an employee.
