Facebook is safe or not?

BANGALORE: Facebook, the world’s largest social networking site, which has more than 800 million users worldwide come under the scanner after it has been reported that 2 lakh user accounts in Bangalore get hacked.

However Facebook denies that any of the Indian account on Facebook been hacked.

Facebook said in a statement, “There have been inaccurate reports of Facebook users’ accounts being hacked. This is not true. Users photos are not being transferred to an unwanted site and no accounts have been compromised. Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us. We are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms, and take action on those who is responsible for these types of content.”

All the issues arrived because of some Java script error in some browsers and that the hackers would have used that error to intrude into Facebook. The other speculation, according to experts, is that some apps might have gone rogue. “Once permissions are given to the app, it continues to use it unless specified otherwise.

Security and privacy were among the major concerns raised at the Facebook developer conference in September this year in California. The social networking giant unveiled many changes in the user account to ensure greater security and privacy. “Security and privacy are among the major concerns.

One of the Banglorean Facebook user said that with incidences like these, the credibility of Facebook will go down. There are not just users on Facebook. There are big brands present as well. And, they get nervous when they see such incidences. Pornographic images and videos show up on my Facebook wall every now and then.

Due to all these happenings some of those who’re affected are scrambling to repair the damage caused, there are others who’ve decided to quit the social networking site altogether.
