MDMK chief Vaiko denied entry into Malaysia for alleged LTTE links
Kuala Lumpur: Invited by Malaysian state Penang’s Deputy CM Ramasamy Palanisamy to attend his daughter’s wedding on June 10, MDMK (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) chief Vaiko was denied entry into Malaysia for his alleged LTTE links.
The party said when Vaiko landed at the Kuala Lumpur airport on Friday morning, immigration authorities told him that he had been banned from entering the country since his name figured “in the list of persons dangerous to Malaysia.”
Officials told him that “he belonged to the LTTE in Sri Lanka,” and quizzed him over the outfit, the party said.
In 2009 – the year when the Sri Lankan military crushed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) – Vaiko had made a speech allegedly in support of the outlawed terrorist group.
The LTTE, which fought for an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka, remains outlawed in India.
He will be sent back to Chennai by a Malaysian Airlines flight on Friday, the MDMK said in a release here. He is expected to reach by 10.45 pm.
