Jakarta: Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar clinched the first medal for India at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta on Sunday. Chandela and Kumar, who were participating in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event, got eliminated in the penultimate stage which meant a bronze medal for India.
The duo had a total score of 429.9. Chinese Taipei’s Ying-Shin Lin and Lu Shaochuan clinched the gold medal with a total score of 494.1 which is also a Games record, while China settled for silver with Zhao Rouzhu and Yang Haoran scoring 492.5. Chandela and Kumar had entered the final as the second-best team with 835.3.
However, Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma failed to qualify for the final of 10m mixed air pistol event.
Chandela has been in decent form heading into the Asian Games in Jakarta after finishing fourth in the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol stage in Munich.
In the eight-woman final, Apurvi was leading her nearest rival by 1.1 points at the end of the 18th shot in the 24-shot final but managed only a 5.9 in the 19th to slip to fourth position.
She closed with a 10.5 on her 20th and her tally of 205.4 was still 2.9 short of the medals. Chinese Taipei’s Ying-Shin Lin had won gold in that event as well.
