Akal Takht Calls for Gherao of 10 Janpath
Gyani Gurbachan Singh, the Jathedar Akal Takht (highest Sikh temporal seat) on Sunday called community members to reach New Delhi to ‘gherao’ the residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday (April 7) in protest of the party’s decision to field Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Touching off protests in the community, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had recently gave “clean chit” to Tytler in a case connected to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The Gyani says that the two Congress leaders were allegedly responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent Sikhs during anti Sikh riots in 1984.
He added that all Sikh organizations including the Dam Dami Taksal led by Harnam Singh Duma have already conveyed their consent to participate in the protest.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said that a call in this regard was already given to the Sikh community to reach Delhi to ghreao the residence of Sonia Gandhi against her decision to nominate Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler to contest parliamentary elections.
