Vizag: A drunk 20-year-old man was filmed raping a mentally-ill woman in broad daylight on the footpath of a road in Andhra Pradesh’s Vishakapatnam, said media reports.
The video of the incident, which reportedly took place on Sunday, shows that passersby – who were a few feet away – did absolutely nothing. An autorickshaw driver filmed the rape and reported it to the police. The man has been arrested by 4th Town police, said the reports. The accused was later identified as Ganji Siva.
The woman was apparently sitting next to a tree on the footpath near the Railway colony – which is one of the busier areas of the city – when the man forced himself on her.
“The statements given by both were incoherent and inconsistent,” media reports quoted police officer Madhusudanamurthy as saying.
In the video, people are seen walking past while the woman is being assaulted. One man seems to abruptly change course.
