The foundation stone laying ceremony comes close on the heels of the recently concluded Global Investors Summit

The state capital is set to get a new convention centre, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav laying the foundation stone for the Rs 100 crore project at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre.

The expansion of Minto Hall has been long overdue, especially after the Global Investors Summit highlighted Bhopal’s need for a larger venue. The central government swiftly approved the project, and construction is set to begin soon.

Yadav said Bhopal’s development aligns with Narendra Modi’s vision for India, focusing on better infrastructure. The new centre will host business conferences, government meetings, and cultural events, boosting the city’s status as a hub for large-scale gatherings.

He highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s growing tourism appeal, with the state home to nine tiger reserves and the highest tiger population in India. Bhopal balances urban life with wildlife, with Ratapani Sanctuary and gharial-inhabited lakes nearby.

Praising Modi’s leadership, Yadav said India is living up to Swami Vivekananda’s prophecy of the 21st century belonging to the country. He noted India’s economic rise, surpassing England, and MP’s efforts to expand tourism, trade, and air connectivity.

The project’s swift approval impressed many. Just ten days after Yadav’s February 25 announcement, the project was officially underway. The Global Investors Summit played a key role in attracting business interest and boosting investment in MP.

The new facility will include a 1,500-seat auditorium, meeting halls, dining areas, an open lawn for 2,000 guests, a cultural centre, a banquet hall, guest suites, and a business centre. It will be linked to the existing venue.

The foundation-laying event saw strong participation from ministers, MLAs, and business representatives. Tourism Principal Secretary Shiv Shekhar Shukla welcomed guests and presented mementos, while officials from the Tourism Corporation and Bhopal Municipal Corporation remained present on the occasion.
