FIR Filed against 11 Persons in Tamang Murder Case
A day murder of Gorkha leader Madan Tamag, Darjeeling continues to be tense today with police conducting searches to nab persons connected with the killing after complaints were filed against 11 people including GJM chief Bimal Gurung, said media reports.
Besides Gurung, an FIR was lodged also against GJM secretary Roshan Giri for the killing.
“Cases will be started against them soon,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
Gourav Sharma, SP Darjeeling, was leading the raids which were started soon after Taman was stabbed to death yesterday, reports said.
Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) Kundan Lal Tamta said that at least 45 people were detained in connection with the case as raids were on in different parts of the three sub-divisions of Darjeeling Hill called Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong to catch the culprits, said reports.
“We are interrogating lot of people to zero in on the culprits and also get details of the circumstances leading to Tamang’s murder,” Tamta was quoted as saying.
Tamang, 64, who led the anti-GJM Democratic Front in the Darjeeling Hills, died of stomach and shoulder injuries after he was attacked with a khukri (long knife used by Nepalis) and swords on Laden La Road around 9.30 am on Friday.
ABGL general secretary Laxman Pradhan blamed the GJM for the killing. The GJM has denied its involvement and instead blamed the state administration.
