New Delhi: Around 500 people attended a condolence meet organised for journalist Gauri Lankesh on Wednesday at Press Club of India (PCI), New Delhi. According to media reports,
members from the media fraternity and supporters from various walks of life marked a presence at the meet, which began at 3PM.
The meeting was organized by the PCI, in association with Indian Women Press Club (IWPC) and the Editors Guild, said the report.
Meanwhile, in the morning, a separate protest was organized as a civil society initiative that included students of JNU and colleagues of Gauri Lankesh. Slogans were raised against right-
wing forces demanding culprits be brought to book.
Senior politicians from the Left such as Sitaram Yechury, D Raja and Mohd Salim joined the meet.
CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, alleging a conspiracy behind the murder, said that Lankesh was targetted because of her efforts. “What happened is a reflection of the communal forces
emerging since past few months in the country,” Yechury was quoted as saying by the reports.
Gauri Lankesh, who was the editor of a weekly Kannada tabloid magazine Lankesh Patrike, was killed on Tuesday night after being shot at least three times. She was shot by a helmet-
wearing assailant while entering her home in Bengaluru.
