PM Narendra Modi gives ‘4P’ mantra to make the world clean – here’s what it means
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave a ‘4P’ mantra to make the world a cleaner place, on the 149th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking on the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention here, where visiting United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was also present, PM Modi said, “To make the world clean, four Ps are necessary – political leadership, public funding, partnerships and people’s participation.”
The Prime Minister hailed the world community for joining hands to realise the dream of a clean world. “So many countries coming together for a cleanliness campaign is unheard of event. I pay tribute to Bapu on everyone’s behalf,” Modi said, referring to the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention.
Recalling the connection between Mahatma Gandhi and cleanliness, the PM said, “While fighting the battle for independence, Gandhi ji had once said that he would choose cleanliness over freedom if he had to.” That cleanliness was close to Gandhi ji’s heart is a well-known fact.
PM Modi, who had announced the Clean India or Swachh Bharat campaign way back in 2014 during his first Independence Day speech, said if we don’t strive to clean our dirty surroundings, then we start accepting uncleanliness and it becomes our habit.
PM Modi said he was proud of the fact that 125 crore Indians had made Swachh Bharat a people’s movement.
Earlier, PM Modi and UN Secretary-General Guterres inspected an exhibition during the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention being organised at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
