PM to flag off Kanpur metro rail, attend IIT-K convocation today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project in the metropolis on Tuesday and will also inaugurate development projects and attend the convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the prime minister will travel by the new Kanpur Metro train to inspect the 9 km-long stretch from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel. The entire length of the metro rail project in Kanpur is 32 km and it is being built at a cost of over Rs 11,000 crore.

“This Metro Rail project will give impetus to the development of Kanpur Nagar. People of the city will get the facility of accessible, pollution-free travel. Industrial activities will also increase rapidly,” a government spokesman said in Lucknow on Monday.

During his Kanpur visit, the prime minister will also inaugurate Bina-Panki multi-product pipeline laid at a cost of over Rs 1,500 crore. The 356 km-long project has a capacity of about 3.45 million metric tons per annum.

Spread from Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh to Panki in Kanpur Nagar, the project will help transport petroleum products from Bina refinery in the region.

Later, Modi will attend the 54th convocation of IIT Kanpur as the chief guest and award all students digital degrees through the National Blockchain Project developed at the institute, for the first time.

The specialty of these digital degrees is that the can be verified globally.
