Pranab in Kolkata, will he meet Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata.  Speculation about the meeting of Pranab Mukherjee and Mamata Banerjee is in round as Finance minister is in two days visit to Kolkata.
Mukherjee reached to Kolkata yesterday and get a grand welcome by thousands of Congress workers.
Mr Mukherjee, who is currently the Finance Minister, has appealed to all parties seeking their support. “I have been nominated as the presidential candidate. Several parties have supported my candidature. Besides the UPA, many other parties have also supported me. Around 14 to 15 parties who are not part of the UPA have supported me. I appeal to the leaders of parties who have not yet announced their decision to support me,” he said at the airport last night.
This is Mr Mukherjee’s first visit to the city after he was chosen by the ruling coalition as its nominee for the top post. The minister will go to his native village Kinnahar later in the day today. But all eyes are on whether he will visit Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the only Congress ally who had opposed his candidature.

BJP Presidential nominee PA Sangma had also said yesterday that he was hopeful of receiving Mamata Banerjee’s support.

Mamata, who had supported APJ Abdul Kalam for President, has not spelled out her support after the former president quit the race.

As of now, Mukherjee appears to have over 60 per cent votes in the Electoral College. Sangma, who has refused to give up, is banking on conscience vote.
