Prez, PM Condole Mangalore Crash Death; Cancel UPA-II Anniversary Celebrations

President Pratibh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have expressed their condolence for the victims of Mangalore air crash and cancelled, as a mark of respect to the diseased, functions for celebration of the first anniversary of UPA-II today, said media reports.

Singh announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of diseased and of Rs 50,000 each to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, reports said.

A Rashtrapati spokesperson said that the President expressed her deep grief and sorrow and condoled the loss of lives, said reports.

Vice President Hamid Ansari said that he joined all citizens in sending condolences to the members of the bereaved families and ‘praying to the Almighty to grant them the strength to withstand this immense loss’, reports said.
