Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday extended his support to the four rebellious senior Supreme Court Judges, said media reports. Justice J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph, on Friday, held a press conference to bring to light the issues that are plaguing the judiciary.
The unprecedented move by the senior Supreme Court judges triggered a torrent of reactions from across the political spectrum. Reacting to the press conference, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, who said it was a surprising move, on Saturday praised the judges for coming out in the open.
Thackeray said that the Centre should not interfere in this matter and should not take any lopsided action on the senior judges for expressing their concerns. Thackeray also sought a thorough probe into the mysterious death of Judge BH Loya who was presiding over the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
The Shiv Sena leader also remarked that if there was no foul play, a thorough independent probe into the case should not affect anyone.
The senior judges said that there was an immediate need to protect the judiciary and uphold democracy. They warned of severe consequences if the issues are not addressed.
