Ratan Tata dies at the age of 86: The body was brought to Nariman Point wrapped in the tricolor, last rites to be held here till 4 pm

Ratan Naval Tata, Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, died at the age of 86. He breathed his last at around 11 pm on Wednesday night. He was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai and was suffering from age-related diseases.

Tata’s body has been kept at the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point. People will be able to pay their last respects here till 4 pm. The last rites will be performed with state honors in the evening.

There were reports of Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awardee Ratan Tata being admitted to the ICU on October 7 as well. However, he himself denied this and said that he is fine and has reached the hospital for a routine checkup.

Tata Chairman N Chandrasekaran: It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Ratan Tata. For the group, Tata was much more than a chairperson. For me, he was a guru, guide and friend.

President Murmu: India has lost an icon who blended excellence with corporate growth, nation building and ethics. Awarded with Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan, Ratan Tata carried forward the legacy of the Tata Group.

PM Narendra Modi: Tata was a visionary business leader, a kind soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to the Tata Group, one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. His contributions went far beyond the boardroom.

Rahul Gandhi: Ratan Tata was a man of vision. He has left an indelible mark on both business and philanthropy. My condolences to his family and the Tata community.

Mukesh Ambani: This is a very sad day for India. Ratan Tata’s demise is a big loss not only for the Tata Group but for every Indian. Personally, I am deeply saddened by Ratan Tata’s demise because I have lost my friend.

Gautam Adani: India has lost a great and visionary person. Tata redefined the path of modern India. Tata was not just a business leader, he embodied the spirit of India with compassion.

Anand Mahindra: I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata will never be forgotten, because great men never die.

Sundar Pichai: It was inspiring for me to hear Ratan Tata’s vision during my last meeting with him. He has left behind an extraordinary business legacy. He played a key role in guiding and developing modern business leadership in India.
