Awareness Drives Mark Gestational Diabetes Day in Bhopal
Practitioners underline need for early registration, testing

Bhopal
The state capital saw a series of awareness drives and screening camps on Sunday to mark Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) Day, focusing on diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Pregnant women and their families were informed about early registration and the importance of timely screening.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a serious health concern that can affect both mother and baby. It is diagnosed when high blood sugar is detected for the first time during pregnancy. Hormonal changes make it difficult for the body to use sugar properly, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Prabhakar Tiwari urged women to register their pregnancy as soon as they find out. Free GDM screenings are available at district hospitals, civil hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres, and health and wellness centres.
