Baghel slams Modi’s remark on Rajiv Gandhi

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and PCC President Bhupesh Baghel on Monday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at an election rally.

Addressing a press conference here at party’s state headquarters Rajiv Bhawan on Monday Baghel said, “Modi’s comments against Rajivji are not only despicable but are worth condemning”.

“No one could even imagine that a Prime Minister would make such a ‘derogatory remark’ for a person who is not alive and was a respectable political figure, Baghel said.

He added that such remark against a person who had been awarded with highest civilian award of the country Bharat Ratna is more astonishing.

Terming Rajiv Gandhi a visionary person, Baghel said “Rajivji’s contribution for the nation has now become milestone and introduction of information technology and Panchayati Raj system are a few great contribution of the former Prime Minister, who had laid down his life for the unity and integrity of the country”.

Baghel further accused Modi of being power hungry and alleged his claim of patriotism was false. The CM said Modi could stoop to any level to grab power.

“Modi’s statement showed that he had accepted his defeat in the ensuing general elections,’’ Baghel claimed, demanding an apology from the PM for his remark on Rajiv.

Notable, attacking Congress President Rahul Gandhi at an election rally in UP’s Pratapgarh on Friday, Prime Minister Modi had said: “Your father was termed Mr Clean by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘Bhrashtachari No. 1’.”
