Bhopal: Dada, alike Didi, stopping us from campaigning Says Shivraj Singh Chouhan
BHOPAL: Denying of permission to land chopper of former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Chhindwara has raised the political heat in the state. The two arch rivals are making allegations and counter allegations, while BJP has demanded removal of Chhindwara collector Shrinivas Sharma, the ruling Congress is seeking ban on Chouhan for calling ‘Pitthu Collector’. A delegation of BJP leaders, led by Chouhan, submitted a memorandum to chief electoral officer VL Kantharao complaining about Chhindwara collector. It was said in the memorandum administration denied permission to land helicopter carrying Chouhan in Chhindwara district at 5.30pm on Wednesday.
BJP vice president Chouhan claimed that his chopper was not allowed to land by collector at the behest of Chief Minister Kamal Nath. He said ‘Dada, alike Didi in Bengal, is now stopping us to do campaigning in Madhya Pradesh’. Chouhan said everyone has the right in democracy to do campaigning. He claimed that collector intentionally conspired to disturb party’s public meetings. BJP has demanded investigations into the matter. Chouhan said we would go by vehicles if the government tries to not allow our helicopter. If they stop our vehicles we would go on foot but no one could stop us going amongst the people, said the former CM.
MP IAS Officers Assn takes exception
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh IAS officers Association said that the former chief minister has undermined the institution of the collector. In a statement, it said, “It is unfortunate that an Ex-Chief Minister has undermined the institution of the collector through his remarks at a public meeting. Such remarks will demoralise the election machinery which is engaged in conducting free & fair elections. It is requested that Election Commission takes note of such incidents and issue suitable advisory to maintain the morale, the statement read.
Congress seeks ban on Chouhan’s poll campaign
Congress too has lodged a complaint with Election Commission demanding ban on Chouhan’s election campaigning. A delegation led by Congress media coordinator Narendra Saluja submitted a memorandum to CEO and claimed that Chouhan was continuously violating model code of conduct. Saluja said Chhindwara collector, following a circular of civil aviation, did not allow helicopter flight after 5pm.
He alleged that Chouhan made indecent remarks against the collector and also threatened him, which is an open violation of code of conduct. Congress delegation has demanded to ban Chouhan for threatening district electoral officer and campaigning on the lines of Yogi Adityanath and other leaders. The delegation claimed that earlier Chouhan had used the name of Army and violated code of conduct by terming Congressmen as ’15 Saal Se Bhuke-Daaku’.
