Bhopal Gets Cloth Bag ATMs to Cut Plastic Waste

The cloth bags are available for a nominal price of Rs 10

Bhopal

The state capital is stepping up its fight against plastic waste with a unique initiative—cloth bag ATMs! Mayor Malti Rai, along with Municipal Corporation Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi, launched the first machine near Kwality Restaurant on Friday, while similar ATMs were set up across the city.

Thanks to a collaboration with Jana Small Finance Bank, these machines let people grab a reusable cloth bag by simply dropping in a Rs 10 coin. The idea is to make it easier for shoppers to ditch plastic and switch to sustainable options. Several officials, including Additional Commissioner (Health) Devendra Singh Chauhan, Zone Presidents Aarti Aneja and Brijula Sachan, and New Market Traders’ Association President Nanak Singh Dua, attended the launch.

Mayor Rai highlighted how these ATMs will help people form an eco-friendly habit while shopping. The goal? A cleaner, greener Bhopal where single-use plastic is a thing of the past.

You can find these cloth bag ATMs at Kwality Restaurant, New Market, Boat Club, Sanjog Apartment, Kolar Road, MP Nagar, Bittan Market, 10 Number Market, Bajrang Chowk, UADD Office, Chanchal Sweets, and Vijay Market. Just pop in a Rs 10 coin, grab a bag, and do your bit for the environment!
