Bhopal: Nath-Diggy bond develops cracks

The bond between Chief Minister Kamal Nath and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh witnessed during assembly polls seems to have developed cracks just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. With Nath becoming Chief Minister after assembly polls, it was said that relationship between the two Congress leaders would last only for a few more days. And with approaching general elections, the strain in the relationship has started becoming evident.

Within a period of three months, the two leaders have begun to converse through media. Earlier, the conversations used to take place in closed rooms. The communication between two over Digvijaya contesting from Bhopal seat, is now taking place on public forum.

Nath, who has been representing Chhindwara parliament seat, will now contest assembly elections from there. His son Nakul Nath is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Chhindwara. Nath by giving statement on Digvijaya contesting from toughest seat, has posed a problem before the latter. The relationship between the duo leaders became tense when Digvijaya Singh during his recent visit to Indore spoke to Nath on phone with its speaker on.

Nath became upset when Digvijaya spoke to him on phone over giving ticket to Indore district Congress working president Vinay Bakliwal. Nath made a statement, after this incident, on former chief minister contesting elections from toughest seat.

Bitterness began from Makhanlal univ
The relation between Chief Minister Kamal Nath and former CM Digvijaya Singh may seems tense but it does not have much to do with the elections. The genesis lies in the difference of opinion two had over the appointment of vice chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism. The differences are now deepening on daily basis.

Singh wanted senior journalist Om Thanvi to be appointed as VC here but Nath, ignoring the name suggested by Singh, got Deepak Tiwari appointed. Singh also wrote to Nath about probe in the appointments in University and other scams but nothing has been done so far. The Committee set up for probe into irregularities at the University has submitted its report to Chief Minister mentioning about irregularities committed in the University. Nath has not taken any action on the report.

Differences on Jan Abhiyaan Parishad too
Kamal Nath and Digvijaya had differences over Jan Abhiyaan Parishad too. Digvijaya is in favour of shutting down this institution as he thinks that it was following the agenda of RSS. Nath has given three months time to the employees of the Parishad. CM does not want to take any decision ahead of Lok Sabha elections, which may send a wrong message in any section of the society.

Different views on LS ticket contenders
Digvijaya Singh was looking after coordination during assembly polls. He was seen motivating all to forget differences and work for the victory of Congress candidate. Singh’s attitude in Lok Sabha elections has changed as he now wishes to get ticket to his followers. Singh wants to get ticket to former MP from Hoshangabad, Rameshwar Neekhra but Nath has forwarded Shailendra Diwan’s name from this seat.

It is considered sure that Gajendra Singh Rajukhedi would get ticket from Dhar but Singh is in favour of taking decision after taking MLA Hira Alawa into confidence. Diggy’s favourite from Vidisha is Rajkumar Patel but Nath is in favour of giving ticket to either Nishank Jain or Shailendra Patel.
