BJP lodges complaint against Cong’s Jyotsna Mahant
Chhattisgarh BJP lodged a complaint on Wednesday with the Election Commission of India against Congress’s candidate from Korba Jyotsna Mahant for allegedly addressing a press conference at the official residence of the assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant, violating model code of conduct. In its complaint, the party stated that on March 26, Jyotsna Mahant addressed a press conference, for which officially invite was sent out to journalists, at official residence of her husband, who is the assembly speaker.
As speaker is a constitutional post, such political event should not have taken place there after the election model code of conduct came into effect.
“It’s a violation of model code and also a criminal and illegal act and it denies equal opportunity to all, the BJP alleged. The complaint lodged by the BJP’s state legal cell further demanded action against Jyotsna Mahant by declaring her candidature as invalid. It also demanded action against her husband as well as Congress spokesperson Ghansyam Raju Tiwari for extending the invitation for violation of poll code.
