BJP stages protest over delay in paddy procurement
BJP on Friday staged a statewide ‘dharna’ against the decision of the state government for delaying the paddy procurement in Chhattisgarh.
Protest was staged in various towns of the state. At Raipur the protest was led by former chief minister and BJP national vice president Dr Raman Singh along with his party colleagues.
The saffron party alleged that the Congress was trying to mislead and betray the farmers. They demanded that the state government should soon start purchasing paddy at `2,500 per quintal.
“Through this protest, we will try to awaken a deaf and dumb Bhupesh government. The state government has betrayed farmers. Deferring the date of paddy procurement from November 15 is unjustified. If the government does not listen to us then we will stage a jail ‘bharo andolan’” Raman Singh warned.
The current regime had not taken the decision of purchasing paddy at the rate of `2,500 by asking the central government, he said.
Going to Delhi and asking time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and meeting President Ram Nath Kovind are just political stunts, he alleged.
BJP is fighting for the real interest of farmers, Raman Singh claimed.
