Caution to Wind: Rahul to Campaign in Rebel Stronghold

Bhopal: Throwing caution to wind, AICC general secretary and Congress scion Rahul Gandhi has decided to visit the Maoist-infested Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, despite security threats posed by the armed rebels threatening to target VIPs this election season, informed Rajiv Singh a functionary of the state party unit on Saturday.

Singh, general secretary of MP Congress says Gandhi will address an election campaign meeting in the area as per the original schedule.

The statement comes a day after media reports attributing the information to party sources had said that the meeting may be canceled in view of the Maoist violence that marred the first phase of polls on April 16.

The state government based on a Home Ministry advisory had said that Maoists could target VIPs during the Lok Sabha elections.
