C’garh creates 29 tehsils, 4 sub-divisions to help people

Chhattisgarh has created 29 tehsils and 4 sub-divisions with a view to promote development activities, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Sunday.

Speaking in the 20th episode of ‘Lokvaani’, Baghel explained that these came up after his government took office and most were located in tribal areas.

“We believe that formation of new administrative units would make it easier for people to get their work related to land, agriculture, education of children and jobs or employment done,” he said.

“This will also help in more systematic implementation of government schemes, which is the core objective of this decision.”

The Chief Minister spoke on the topic of “Expectations and Development of Tribal Regions”. The speech was broadcast by All India Radio and other radio stations.

Baghel said it was expected that the formation of Chhattisgarh will bridge the gap in development between tribal regions and other areas.

“But in the last 15 years, this gap has further widened… We reviewed the claims of forestland lease and cases of imprisoned tribal people, we returned to the tribals lands encroached by industrial groups and we hiked the wages for tendu patta collection from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per standard sack.

“All these steps have commenced a new era of development in tribal areas, enhancing the trust of tribal people on government and administration,” he said.

The Chief Minister said a network of roads is being developed in the state at a cost of Rs 16,000 crores. As a result, tribal areas will get long-awaited roads.

He also spoke about supplying electricity in tribal areas. In the last two and a half years, 74,000 irrigation pumps have been electrified with solar energy and about 4,000 solar drinking water pumps have been installed in tribal areas.

Baghel said that Chhattisgarh has been awarded 11 national awards by TRIFED, an organization of the Central government of India, for procurement of minor forest produce and other related arrangements.

He said the Chief Minister Plantation Promotion Scheme will generate better source of income for locals, tribal people and forest dependent families.

The government has taken concrete steps in tribal areas in the areas of education, health facilities and employment, he said.

The Chief Minister urged everyone to be very careful about the feared third wave of Corona.

He told people to follow Covid protocol while celebrating festivals.
