Governor Flags Off Rally As Medicos Ride For A Cause

The initiative was supported by the Lions Club

Bhopal

City streets came alive with purpose as Governor Mangubhai Patel flagged off a high-energy car and bike rally promoting organ donation on Sunday.

Over 400 medicos, students, and social workers joined the movement, making Sunday a day of action and awareness.

The rally, organised by Gandhi Medical College (GMC) Alumni Association, Kiran Foundation, and Lions of Bhopal, began at Raj Bhavan and concluded at the GMC campus. A conference followed, where medical experts and social workers highlighted the urgent need for more organ donors across India.

Lions Club Coordinator Abid Baig shared that District Governor Manish Shah led the rally, with members from all Lions Clubs in Bhopal and district cabinet officials participating. MP Alok Sharma also attended, adding weight to the cause.

Dr Rakesh Bhargava from Kiran Foundation revealed that 24 organ donors have already saved 70 lives. So far, 120 patients have received transplants, bringing hope to families who had been waiting for a miracle.

But the challenge isn’t just medical—it’s about awareness. Experts from AIIMS Bhopal, Chirayu Medical College, and JK Medical College have joined the initiative, inspiring young medicos to champion organ donation and spread the message within their communities.

One donor can save up to eight lives, yet the demand continues to rise. While medical advancements like hypothermic perfusion and lab-grown organs offer hope for the future, raising awareness and increasing voluntary donations remain the most immediate solutions.
