Governor Tandon holds discussions with VCs of Agriculture and Veterinary Universities

The Governor Lalji Tandon discussed at length with the Vice Chancellors of Agriculture and Veterinary Universities in connection to double farmers’ income at Raj Bhavan today. He told the Vice Chancellors to prepare a pilot project to resolve basic problems of agriculture and its needs. The Secretary to Governor Manohar Dubey was also present.
The Governor told them to prepare a feasible model for maximum agriculture output at low cost. Measures for zero budget farming should be explored by preparing projects. He said that universities should examine authencity by implementing it on ground. Lalji Tandon mentioned that fertilsers and pesticides could be prepared by cow dung and urine. Disease free crops could be grown by refining seeds. Farmers’ income could also be doubled by saving large expenses on chemical fertilsers, he added.
Governor Tandon told to explore ways for additional income of farmers and also encourage them to adopt them. He asked to take up mix farming of turmeric, ginger and black pepper in orchards. Governor Tandon said that just contemplation on problems of basic issues is not enough. Universities are also required to present a practical example for solution of the problems. There should be direct contact between the producers and consumers. The long chain of middlemen is required to be curtailed. In order to ensure reasonable rates to the farmers, universities should also conduct practical implementation of food processing arrangements by conserving fast persihable produces to enable the farmers to get reasonable rates.
Giving examples of countries like Brazil and Australia, Governor Tandon urged the universities to come forward and make efforts for improvement in indigenous livestock breed. High breed could be developed in 3 years cycle. There is a need for collective efforts. Universities should contemplate collectively on basic problem of agricluture and its solution, he added.
