Irrigation projects gave new dimensions to agriculture expansion in Vindhya region: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that a new chapter of progress has been written in Vindhya region. God and nature have bestowed gift of immense natural resources to this region. Previous governments did not use this natural wealth due to which the Vindhya became a backward and poor region. Present government has removed the blot of backwardness. Now, farmers in Vindhya region have power for agriculture and water for irrigation as a result of which its agriculture production has increased from 5 lakh tones to 14 lakh tonnes. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan was laying foundation stones for Bansagar multipurpose project’s Bahuti canal project and Teonthar Bahao project at Mangawan, 35 kilometers away from Rewa today.

Shri Chouhan said that efforts are afoot to uplift education level. Government’s schools’ arrangements have been streamlined. New cadre of Adhyapaks has been created and policy of equal salary for equal work has been framed.
The Chief Minister said that state is moving towards industrial revolution. A network of small and cottage industries is being laid so that youths of the state can become self-reliant. For this, loans are being provided to youths in easy manner on state government’s guarantee.
Dedicating both the projects to people, the Chief Minister hoped that these projects will bring about prosperity and progress in entire Vindhya region and it will become as prosperous as Punjab.
Energy Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla expressed gratitude on his and district’s people’s behalf to the Chief Minister for meeting this long-standing demand. He expressed happiness over laying of foundation stones for completing pending construction works of Bansagar project.
From 6.30 km long canal of Tons power plant, water will be released at 30 cubic meter per second, which will be diverted and collected at a reservoir near village Itma. Main canal will be constructed from this reservoir (capacity 5 million cubic water) and a 6 km long aquaduct of 22 cubic meter flow capacity will be constructed on Tamas river. Length of Tamas river is 70 km and Chilla branch canal 47 km. Through their minor system, 37 thousand hectare will be irrigated in Rewa and Teonthar tahsil.
Bahuti canal project will originate from Jhinna sub-dam. Its designed water flow will be 45 cumec. Main canal is proposed to be 74 km long. Under the scheme, a one km long canal at Sonjuha and 6.50 km long canal at Papra Pahad will be constructed for release of water. The project will consist of 6 distributary canals Bela, Rathara, Amilki, Chandeh, Dagadpur and Shankarpur measuring 151.50 km. From Bela distributary canal, 8878 hectare in 49 villages of Amarpatan Vidhan Sabha constituency in Satna district will be irrigated while other distributaries will irrigate 56 thousand 122 hectare in 342 villages of Gurh, Mangawan and Devtalab Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Rewa district.
