Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with a solid half-century as India clinched their third Champions Trophy title on Sunday, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai.

After losing his 12th consecutive toss, Rohit saw his spinners put in a strong performance, restricting New Zealand to 251 for seven in 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45) were the standout bowlers.

India chased down 252 with six balls to spare. Rohit Sharma (76 off 83) and Shreyas Iyer (48 off 62) ensured a steady pursuit, while KL Rahul (34* off 33) guided them home.

For New Zealand, Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101), Michael Bracewell (53* off 40), and Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29) provided crucial runs, but it was not enough to challenge India’s chase.

India had a few nervy moments, losing quick wickets at 183 for three, but Hardik Pandya’s breezy 18 and Rahul’s calm finish ensured victory. India won the tournament unbeaten, highlighting their dominance.

This is India’s third Champions Trophy triumph, having previously won in 2002 and 2013. No other team has lifted the trophy three times.

Minutes after the victory, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released a video message congratulating Team India on their sterling performance throughout the tournament.

The victory resulted in celebratory fireworks across Bhopal as cricket lovers in the state capital took to the streets with the Tricolour in their hands to rejoice in the swashbuckling win.
