The BJP’s backing for a rebellion to unseat the government of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery is not good for democracy and the BJP’s real face has come to the fore, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Thursday.
“We had earlier said that the BJP cannot tolerate any opposition party in any government. It uses all methods to destabilize such governments,” he told journalists at Baikunthpur on the last leg of his visit to Korea district.
He added the BJP had tried similar tactics earlier in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and some north-eastern states.
Grabbing the elected representatives through different modes including horse-trading is a common feature, he said. In Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena MLAs turned rebels. This was used to pull down the Thackeray government.
If any party leader or MLA is upset over any issue, pertaining to the party or the government, it can be understood. But utilizing it to pull down the government indicates direct involvement, he said.
On the Udaipur killing, Baghel said it needs to be condemned in strongest words. Such incidents done in religious frenzy cannot be tolerated. The perpetrators should be punished severely, he added.
