Modicare: Cash incentive for govt medical staff in MP

BHOPAL: ‘Modicare’ is all set for roll-out in the state from August 15. For patients treated under the universal health coverage scheme ‘Ayushman Bharat’, about 70% of the treatment cost would be distributed as ‘cash incentive’ among doctors and their assistants in government hospitals.
MP Ayushman Bharat CEO Bhaskar Lashakar said, “The main aim of the scheme to give patients multiple options for treatment and thus create a competitive market where the patient will have the last laugh. Some amount of package will be given to RKS to further strengthen the medical amenities while a substantial chunk of the pie is proposed to be shared among the medical staff as incentive against additional work and for going an extra mile to treat the patients.”
MP Ayushman Bharat, registered as a society, expects to get Rs 650 crore from Centre and about Rs 1,000 crore from the state government. All government hospitals have been deemed eligible under the scheme. The cash incentive to government doctors is one of the best practises adopted from Telangana state health coverage scheme by Niti Ayog. It would be implemented across states that adopt Ayushman Bharat.

“Ayushman Bharat scheme is an entitlement. Anyone who is entitled will be served,” Lashakar said, adding that it would cover 80% population of 1.1 crore poor and vulnerable families in Madhya Pradesh alone. To safeguard interest of patients not catered under Ayushman Bharat, each government hospital would have its individual cap on number of interventions under the ambitious government scheme.
Lauding the scheme, Gandhi Medical College dean Dr M C Songra said that Ayushman Bharat will improve infrastructure at the hospital. A proposal for the same has been sent to the state government. Earlier too, doctors used to get their share when patients were admitted in private wards at Hamidia hospital.
The new scheme would mirror existing state illness fund scheme. However, under the new scheme, representatives from Ayushman Bharat called Ayush-Mitr would be stationed at each of the identified hospitals. Each application would be cleared within four hours on a working day, Lashakar said.
