The first National Lok Adalat of the year wrapped up successfully on Saturday, settling 27,371 cases. The event, held under the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, provided quick resolutions and financial relief to many.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp before a statue of Goddess Saraswati. He was joined by Additional Collector Ankur Meshram, DCP Shraddha Tiwari, Legal Aid Officer Abhay Singh, and other officials.

The Lok Adalat handled a mix of pending and pre-litigation cases, including motor accident claims, cheque bounce disputes, family matters, and traffic e-challans. Compensation awarded in various settlements crossed Rs 59.68 crore.

Bhopal became the first district in Madhya Pradesh to settle pre-litigation traffic e-challans through Lok Adalat, setting an example for other cities. A total of 61 benches were formed for efficient case resolution.

In one case, a woman who lost her husband in a road accident received Rs 1.5 crore from Go Digit Insurance. Judges Srivastava and Vivek Saxena handed over the cheque during the Lok Adalat.

Another woman, whose husband died in a 2021 accident, had sought Rs 1.04 crore in compensation. A Rs 33 lakh settlement was reached with Tata AIG Insurance, bringing financial relief to the family.

With quick settlements and minimal hassle, the National Lok Adalat proved once again that justice doesn’t have to be delayed. Many walked away with long-pending disputes finally resolved.
