Police Ramp Up Patrols and Safety Measures for New Year in Bhopal
Traffic stops at several places to check drunk driving, hooliganism

Hundreds of police personnel will guard main traffic intersections, check for drunk driving, and act against hooliganism to ensure safe, incident-free New Year celebrations in the state capital on Monday.
Issuing a stern advisory, traffic police officials have said that breathalyser tests will be conducted at several locations, including main intersections and roads around known party haunts in the city.
Police have also instructed event organisers and party venues to frisk revellers entering their premises and ensure that no sharp-edged weapons or firearms are brought into the venues.
Picketing and patrolling have also been intensified in areas known for celebrations turning into hooliganism hotspots and causing inconvenience to passers-by, especially women.
Fire and health services are also maintaining a high alert to minimise response times in case of emergencies. Traffic police have said that high-speed corridors will be created for ambulances and other emergency response services.
A dedicated helpline is in place for citizens to report traffic misdemeanours and hooliganism.
In recent years, New Year celebrations in the city have often been marred by traffic snarls, accidents, and violence.
