Bhopal
Splurging like there was no tomorrow, residents in the state capital spent Rs 450 crores on Dhanteras buying real estate, cars, two-wheelers, and gold and silver jewellery.
According to rough estimates, real estate worth a whopping Rs 175 crores was bought and sold in the city, even as car sales shot up with nearly 400 sets of wheels rolling out to mark the festival that many consider auspicious for spending.
And if that wasn’t enough, some 3,200 two-wheelers, 20 kg of gold jewellery, and 200 kg of silver ornaments were also sold to mark the occasion.
The Rs 175 crore expenditure on real estate added upwards of Rs 7 crores in revenues for the state government, while the government drove off with a truckload in taxes from the nearly Rs 225 crores people spent on automobiles.
