SP Throws Hat in Budhni Ring, Names Bypoll Candidate
The Samajwadi Party is back in business in the state after being humiliated by the Congress ahead on 2023 Assembly Elections

Naming Arjun Arya as its candidate from the Budhni Assembly constituency, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday marked its return to the political arena in Madhya Pradesh.
The SP was brushed aside by the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly Elections. Riding a wave with pollsters predicting a huge win for the grand old party, former chief minister Kamal Nath had refused to accomodate the SP demands for a seat sharing arrangement.
Though the SP allied with the Congress for the 2024 General Elections, insiders say that the party leaders have not yet forgotten the ignominy meted out to them.
Poll predictions aside, a hearty campaign launched by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had decimated the Congress in the ensuing assembly elections.
This time around, neither Congress and nor SP stand a chance in Budhni, and the two are using the bypoll as a mere opportunity for posturing and optics, said a BJP leader in Bhopal.
