Afghanistan-New Zealand Test match cancelled due to rain without a ball being bowled:

This is the first time on Indian grounds; overall 8th match

The Afghanistan-New Zealand one-off Test has been cancelled due to rain. It has been raining in Noida since Friday morning and the ground was flooded. The match officials inspected the ground in the morning and decided to cancel the match. The Afghanistan Cricket Board said- ‘It is still raining in Greater Noida. The match officials have also cancelled the 5th and final day’s play due to continuous rain.’

For the first time in the history of Test cricket, a Test match in India has been cancelled without a ball being bowled. This is the 8th match overall.

The New Zealand Cricket Board, popularly known as Blackcaps, informed about the cancellation of the test through this post. The team will leave for Sri Lanka on Saturday, September 14, where the Kiwis have to play a Test series. 

After 26 years a match got cancelled, New Zealand’s second consecutive match. After 26 years a test match has got cancelled without a ball being bowled. Earlier this happened in 1998 when Dunedin test between India and New Zealand got cancelled. This is New Zealand’s second consecutive match got cancelled. Till now a total of 7 matches have got cancelled. This happened for the first time in the year 1890 in the England-Australia match.

The situation was such that in the initial days, carpets used in weddings were used to protect the ground from rain. Greater Noida Authority did not even have skilled ground workers. In such a situation, laborers were employed.

There were no super soppers here. In such a situation, an attempt was made to dry the ground with electronic fans. Later, the Greater Noida Authority asked for 2 super soppers from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Which were sent from Meerut Stadium. Not only this, the catering staff of the stadium was seen washing utensils with washroom water.

This stadium has already been banned, it will depend on the match referee. The last international match was played here in March 2017, when an ODI series was played between Afghanistan and Ireland. At the end of this year, in September 2017, cases of match fixing in corporate matches came to light, then BCCI banned the stadium. This time the decision on the future of the stadium will be taken after the report of match referee Javagal Srinath comes.

Continuous rain in Noida for two weeks It has been raining continuously in Greater Noida for the last two weeks. There was heavy rain last night as well. The groundsmen were busy repairing the ground with the help of super soppers.
